How it works
Android Studio is an IDE (integrated development environment) built on JetBrains' IntelliJ IDEA. It bundles the Android SDK tools, the Gradle build, the Android Emulator for running virtual phones, tablets and watches, Compose previews, a Layout Inspector, Logcat for reading app logs, profilers for memory, CPU and battery, and the APK Analyzer. Gemini in Android Studio adds AI help for writing code and explaining crashes.
It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS, and it is also the usual place to open the Android half of a Flutter, React Native or Capacitor project. Signing a release build and producing an AAB for Google Play can be done from its menus.
